A Safe Place to Learn, Play, Explore and Belong
Children need more than protection from harm. Healthy development also requires play, curiosity, friendship, learning, creativity and the freedom to discover the world in a safe environment. Wings For The Nations intends to establish a Children's Resource Centre primarily serving children below the age of 12.
What the Centre is intended to provide
- Children's library and reading corners
- Storytelling and literacy activities
- Educational toys and games
- Creative arts and crafts
- Music and movement
- Supervised indoor play
- Outdoor recreation and playground activities
- Sports and physical activity
- Early-learning resources
- Age-appropriate digital learning where safely managed
- Life-skills and social-development activities
- Homework and study support where appropriate
Why play matters
Play supports emotional regulation, language development, problem-solving, creativity, social skills and confidence. For children who have experienced hardship or instability, safe recreation can also restore a sense of normal childhood experience and belonging.
Child nutrition and refreshments
Where resources permit, children participating in approved programmes may receive simple refreshments or nutritional support such as porridge, mandazis, snacks and other appropriate food items. Food should be prepared and distributed using safe hygiene, allergy and nutrition practices.
Toys and learning-material donations
The Centre may receive approved new or good-quality donated toys, books, games, sports equipment, art materials and educational resources. Donations should be screened for safety, age appropriateness, cleanliness and suitability before distribution.
A child-safe environment
The Children's Centre should be designed around safeguarding, controlled access, trained supervision, safe toilets and play spaces, appropriate staff-child boundaries, first-aid readiness and clear procedures for reporting concerns.
